Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist
COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY (CT) TECHNOLOGIST
SITE OF SERVICE:
· U.S. Naval Hospital, Guam
· Full Time
POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:
· Education: Certificate.
· Accreditation: Graduate from an academic program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
· Certification: Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) in Computed Tomography.
· Cardiac Certifications: Must have the following hands-on certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
o Basic Life Support (BLS)
· Experience: Possess a minimum of 3-year full-time experience within the last 5 years as a CT Technologist in a clinical facility of similar size or complexity.
· U.S. Citizenship: Shall be a U.S. citizen
· English Language Requirement: Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.
· Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.
DUTIES:
· Perform computerized axial tomography scans of all aspects of the body (including but not limited to head, neck, spine, body, and extremities). Perform specialized CT exams to include multiphase contrast enhanced studies, vascular CTA (Computed Tomography Angiography, including coronary), CT perfusion, and reconstructions (both multiplanar and 3D). In addition, the HCW shall provide conventional/portable radiographs.
· Arrive, depart, and log completed patients in the MTF’s hospital information system (MHS Genesis) and in the scanner logbooks. Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading via the PACS according to department protocol.
· Evaluate patients for contrast compatibility, renal function, allergy history, contrasts contraindications. Ensure patients are properly prepped with required contrast agents (oral, IV, rectal), NPO status, and appropriate IV access per established CT protocols.
· Evaluate critical and emergency procedures and determine patient priorities. Work with the Emergency Department staff and inpatient staff to accommodate and prioritize exams.
· Provide assistance and scans for invasive procedures including drainages, biopsies, radiofrequency, and cryoablations.
· Recognize significance of all structures and acute pathology. Bring critical findings to the attention of the radiologist prior to discharging the patient.
· Recognize and report to the radiologist any symptoms which have a direct impact on the patient’s conditions while in CT such as adverse reaction to contrast media or IV infiltration. Recognize the need for and initiate emergency measures for critical situations such as respiratory or cardiac arrest.
· Receive and position patients in the CT scanner to ensure correct visualization in the scanner’s field of view.
· Explain procedure to patient and provide humane and appropriate care and communication to alleviate patient’s fear of examination.
· Perform system warm-ups, calibrations, and quality control tasks according to manufacturer and MTF instructions. Recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify designated Government personnel of outlying values.
· Initiate repair call procedures for equipment malfunctions by notifying designated Government personnel. Report problems to the Biomedical Repair section and record the problem condition in the trouble logbook.
· Maintain CT suite including stocking supplies, cleaning, taking out linen and sharps containers as needed. Perform daily checks of the crash cart, and monthly checks of emergency contrast reaction kits.
· The HCW shall assist during the performance of clinical procedure. Such direction and interaction will adhere to Government and professional clinical standards and accepted protocols. You will perform limited administrative duties, which include maintaining statistical records of your clinical workload, participating in education programs, preparing documentation for medical boards, and participating in clinical staff quality assurance functions as prescribed by the Department Head.
· Perform general duties with regard to scheduling CT examinations. This includes appropriately creating and maintaining the daily/weekly CT schedule with close attention to exam priority (STAT vs ASAP vs Routine), minimizing patient backlog, and contacting patients when appropriate.
HOURS:
· Services shall be provided Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0730 and 1600 for an 8.5-hour period to include uncompensated 30-minutes meals break, respectively.
· Specific hours shall be scheduled 30 days in advance by the Department Head or a designated Government Representative.
· In no instance will the HCW be required to provide excess of 80 hours per two-week period.
Base Down Days:
During a planned closure of the facility due to training, closures before or after holidays family down days, Employee will only be compensated for the actual hours worked. If clinic is closed and employee is not able to work, employee will be required to use leave or take LWOP (without penalty).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS
Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
