POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Earned an associate degree or higher in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution and be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), American Medical.
Licensure: Must possess a current license issued by the State in which the laboratory is located, if such licensing is required.
Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing technical medical laboratory support work such as preparing specimens for collection and performing laboratory testing and examinations.
English Language Requirement:Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.
Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.
DUTIES:
Collects patient samples when necessary. Receives patient's specimens of blood, urine, stool, microbiological and viral cultures, tissue, body fluids and cytological specimens.
Performs clinical laboratory tests on specimens as ordered. Identifies unusual results or interferences that cause erroneous results.
Processes laboratory specimens for shipment to reference laboratories using acceptable laboratory procedures.
Conducts necessary quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures.
Assists in training laboratory personnel, staff and students in the performance of authorized clinical laboratory procedures, quality assurance methods, instrument maintenance, and the implications of various results.
Operates, calibrates, maintains and troubleshoots all blood bank, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, and microbiology analyzers, in addition to laboratory centrifuges.
Performs preliminary steps for instrument setup, function verification and operation for instrumentation.
HOURS:
Day, night and evening shifts working an 8-hour shift, Monday-Friday.
