POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Earned an associate degree or higher in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution and be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), American Medical.
- Licensure: Must possess a current license issued by the State in which the laboratory is located, if such licensing is required.
- Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing technical medical laboratory support work such as preparing specimens for collection and performing laboratory testing and examinations.
- Cardiac Certifications: Must have the following hands-on certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross:
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- U.S. Citizenship: Shall be a U.S. citizen.
- English Language Requirement: Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.
- Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.
DUTIES:
- Collects patient samples when necessary. Receives patient's specimens of blood, urine, stool, microbiological and viral cultures, tissue, body fluids and cytological specimens.
- Performs clinical laboratory tests on specimens as ordered. Identifies unusual results or interferences that cause erroneous results.
- Processes laboratory specimens for shipment to reference laboratories using acceptable laboratory procedures.
- Conducts necessary quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures.
- Assists in training laboratory personnel, staff and students in the performance of authorized clinical laboratory procedures, quality assurance methods, instrument maintenance, and the implications of various results.
- Operates, calibrates, maintains and troubleshoots all blood bank, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, and microbiology analyzers, in addition to laboratory centrifuges.
- Performs preliminary steps for instrument setup, function verification and operation for instrumentation.
HOURS:
- Day, night and evening shifts working an 8-hour shift, Monday-Friday.
